Any news about this port of PainTown for AmigaOS4 ?
I just try the WIP version but still some crash here and there expecially selecting the MUGEN option, also still very slow on my Sam because Allegro.
The recent 3.5 is now compilable also with SDL (http://paintown.sourceforge.net/) so maybe you can try to compile againts it

Re: Paintown für AmigaOS 4.1
Hallo

sadly no... but why?
- The game still has the issues regarding Network play and M.U.G.E.N
- I simply tried re-compiling the sources from 2010. The project doesn't compile anymore. Maybe its related to my 'self-updated' SDK using gcc v8.
- I recognized already some years ago that all Allegro Games are causing always 100% CPU load when being executed. Maybe this behavior was introduced with an OS 4.1 Update or OS 4.1 FE. Don't know. At least on an X5000 i expect a Game like Alldarts not to eat the whole CPU. The same problem seems to hinder Allegro Games to run at full Speed (60 fps/+)
- Because of this (slower+100% CPU) and another Allegro Problem (WAV Sound file loading and endianness) i picked the sources from the Allegro Games Library from OS4Depot.net and had a quick look myself. This was in 2017 without any reasonable success and probably has now the same problems as the Paintown Game regarding compiling. But since i have some other old and unreleased (at least two really nice) Allegro Games in my Porting Directory, i may have another look at it some time. Currently i am focussed to more recent stuff using SDL2/OpenGL2/OpenGLES2&3.

Guter Vorschlag!

Yeah, nice to read about that initial new progress ..
About the speed, yes i remember the old version you released and indeed it was really slow (100% cpu), it worked but it was hardly usable on my machine (a Sam440 Flex 800) .. probably as you say because Allegro is slow by design or who know what ..
However I read on their site that they had (atleast till 3.6.0 version) a backend for SDL aswell .. now it seems that their recent intention will be to drop it aswell in favour of opengl, but perhaps you may try it for the time being.
Probably SDL will be faster ..
